1 dead after three shots fired in North Carolina mall parking lot

NEW BERN, NC (WNCT) — One person was killed and two others were injured, including the alleged shooter, in what New Bern police say was an incident early Saturday.

Police responded shortly before 3 a.m. to the 1500 block of South Glenburnie Road for a report of a shooting. They found three people with gunshot wounds in the parking lot of the “Marketplace” shopping center. All three were taken to a local hospital.

Police said one of the men has died and the other is in critical condition.

A third man, believed to be the shooter, is also being treated for his injuries. Officials said he will face charges after his release from the hospital.

No names are being released pending notification of next of kin. The district prosecutor’s office was also informed about this, the police said. No one else is believed to be injured and police said there is no threat to the public.
