The Goldsboro Police Department said two children were involved in an accidental shooting that left one injured.
Just before noon Sunday, officers responded to reports of a shooting on Fairview Circle, police said.
Once on scene, officers found a 7-year-old boy who had been shot in the torso; Officers were told that an 8-year-old relative had accidentally shot a 7-year-old child.
The 7-year-old was taken to UNC Health Wayne Medical Center and then by helicopter to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, according to police.
The condition of the child is still unknown.
Police said investigators are actively working to gather information about what led up to the shooting.
