The Durham Police Department has arrested 22-year-old suspect Derek Ortiz.

The Durham Police Department has arrested 22-year-old suspect Derek Ortiz.

A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a shooting in Durham that left one person dead and another injured in August, police said.

Sevon Dunston, 22, of Durham, has been charged in the shooting death of a Cary man last summer, police said.

On the afternoon of August 17 a man and a woman were shot along the 2500 block of South Roxborough Street and East Cornwallis Road in Durham.

According to police, emergency medical personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene. Police identified him the next day as Derek Ortiz of Cary. He was 21 years old.

The woman who was shot suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Dunston is currently being held without bail at the Durham County Jail.
