Siemens eMobility is working with Ford to develop a custom charger for the future F-150 Lightning. The Ford Charge Station Pro is a UL-certified, “bi-directional” level 2 charging station with a peak power of 19.2 kW.
The Ford Charge Station Pro is required to turn on the Ford Intelligent Backup Power system, which allows the F-150 Lightning to be used as a power source during outages. In the future, Siemens says, additional features will be available through firmware updates that will help customers “further interact with the network.”
“Together with Ford, Siemens not only helps accelerate the proliferation of electric vehicles in residential areas, but also enables drivers to have more control over their energy future,” said John DeBoer, head of Siemens eMobility in North America. “The technology of this charger helps make charging at home more sustainable, reliable and affordable.”
