The father of a child faces felony child abuse charges after his 1-year-old son was “severely burned” in a bathtub, North Carolina police said.

A father put his 1-year-old son in a bathtub that was so hot it caused “severe burns,” North Carolina police said.

Officers arrived at a Lenoir home around 5:15 p.m. on Jan. 9 and found an infant with burns to her lower body, according to a news release from the Lenoir Police Department.

The child has “severe burns” over nearly 30% of his body, the release said.

He was taken to a local hospital and later flown to Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem, about 85 miles away, police said.

Investigators found the father placed the child in a hot tub and left him there for seven to eight minutes, the release said.

The father, who is in his 20s, was arrested and charged with child abuse causing serious bodily injury, the release said. He is being held in the Caldwell County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

According to police, the child is in stable condition.

Lenoir is about 75 miles northwest of Charlotte.
