1 dead, 2 injured after Denny’s sign falls on car in Kentucky

A 72-year-old woman died after a restaurant sign fell on a car in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, police said. A Denny’s sign on N. Mulberry Street fell on a car around 1:30 p.m. Thursday, according to police. They said three people, two women and a man, who were in the vehicle had to be extricated and taken to hospital. The 72-year-old woman, now identified as Lillian Curtis, was taken to UofL Hospital in critical condition, where she later died. Another woman and a man were taken to Baptist Medical with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, police said. At the time the sign fell, winds were reported to be around 50 mph in and around the area. Police said that caused the sign to fall. The Elizabethtown Police Department is investigating.
