NC road rage ended with man shooting at car on I-40, police say


WINSTON-SALEM, NC (WGHP) — Winston-Salem Police are looking for a man after a shooting on Interstate 40 that is believed to be related to the crime.

Around 1:12 p.m., Friday, officers responded to a report of a shooting.

Investigators say the suspect was driving a white van on I-40 West when he fired an unknown firearm at another vehicle traveling on the interstate. No one was injured by the shots.

Investigators say both the victim and the suspect were driving on US 52 North before the shooting, and the suspect attempted to exit onto US 52 while the victim’s vehicle was already on the highway and unable to make way.

The suspect then became upset with the victim and began driving erratically and following them, according to investigators. The victim was trying to get away from the suspect on I-40 when the suspect fired shots at their vehicle and exited I-40 onto Silas Creek Parkway.

The description of the suspect is as follows:

  • White man
  • In the late 20s
  • In a green hat
  • Driving a newer white work van with white painted rear windows

Investigators say there is no indication the suspect and victim knew each other.
