SANFORD, NC — A man with a long criminal history faces a new homicide charge after Lee County investigators found a barrel of human remains encased in concrete on his property.
Jackie Lamar Bright is a known drug dealer whose conviction dates back to 2000. He was released from prison in May 2022, was arrested on new drug charges on January 6, released on bond and arrested again on new drug charges on January 11 before authorities added the murder charge.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office announced the homicide charge Thursday afternoon. On Tuesday, “detectives located a 55-gallon barrel in a heavily wooded area containing concrete and what were believed to be human remains,” the sheriff’s office said.
The remains have been identified as Michael Bradley Cox, who has been missing since December 2022.
Sheriff Brian Estes said the investigation will continue and more charges are expected.
