How to choose a 3d printer
Three-dimensional printers cover a huge range of sizes and prices, with some industrial models capable printers. However, such equipment naturally does not meet the needs and means of most people, and the vast majority of consumer devices are designed to be placed on a table. Even they have a wide range when it comes to cost, so it’s worth taking some time to find a budget 3D printer (or at least a decent deal with a 3D printer for a more expensive device) that can suit your budget as well. also meeting your needs.
Modern 3D printers hire one of two production technologies: Simulation of fused deposition (FDM) or stereolithography (SLA). FDM printers are more popular and use a printing medium known as filament. This filament is heated to the melting point and then extruded through one or more printheads that move along three axes to create a layer-by-layer object from the bottom up on the heat-dissipating plate.
FDM printers are usually the most user-friendly, and the threads they use are also very common and fairly affordable, making these 3D printers good for household items and other common projects. Items made with a FDM 3D printer usually have a noticeably striped appearance due to this layered construction method, but the filaments and printers that use them are improving and becoming more able to cope with complex tasks as this technology continues to mature. Most of the 3D printers you will find will be of this design.
Stereolithography, although technology has existed for decades, is less common due to the higher cost of SLA printers and their patented resins (there are several 3D printers that use resin, but they are usually smaller). Instead of thread as a substrate for printing, SLA printers start with a liquid resin that hardens with UV radiation when it is formed into the desired shape in a printing chamber. The UV laser is reflected from the mirrors to selectively target the resin to be cured; this is also done in layers, but in a much different way than when simulating fused deposition.
Thus, resin-based SLA printers are capable of creating smoother, more detailed objects with higher resolution than FDM printers. These resin items are also usually much stronger. The trade-off here is that 3D SLA (and resin) printers tend to be more expensive than FDM units, and patented resins are less flexible and dirtier to work with.
