SELMA, NC — A driver drove off the U.S. Highway 70 bypass Friday morning, crossed the median, snapped the center divider cables and overturned, spilling approximately 100 gallons of diesel fuel.
The crash happened just before 4:30 a.m. near US 70.
Crews at the scene told WRAL News the driver suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to WakeMed.
The overturned truck was fully loaded with produce and will need to be unloaded before it can be moved, authorities said.
The truck was blocking one westbound lane at 5 a.m., but crews said the entire US 70 Bypass around Selma will be closed by the state Department of Transportation and all westbound traffic will be diverted to US 70 Business.
The cleanup could take an estimated five hours all morning, officials said.
