Randy Lovewasher began his travels in Pine in 1985, and his husband Jim Skikey followed his example in 2003 when he and Randy began dating.
“I came here from the Midwest, and for me it was like a place in a fairy tale,” Lavaser said.
When the coronavirus pandemic began, they headed to their home on Fire Island, where the idea for BeachBreak Coffee was born.
“A beach break is a term for surfing, it’s a place where a wave breaks on a sandy spit, and that’s what we have here, and of course that applies to coffee breaks,” Skiki said.
Their beans are roasted in Savannah, Georgia, and ground at their home on Fire Island with varieties named after communities.
“We have Guatemalan pines, Colombian cherries, we have a Lighthouse espresso blend,” Skiki said.
The products are distributed in the true style of Fire Island.
“We are spreading up and down Fire Island. I have my e-bike, and that has opened up some of its distribution, ”Lavaser said.
Due to certain commercial restrictions on the island, they were unable to open the cafes of their dreams, but their products are stored in stores and on the island.

This includes Denizen, which opened last summer.
“I like their branding. They have an incredible history, they have an incredibly rich business experience that they bring to their new business,” said owner Ryan Espinosa.
Ryan Espinosa was happy to sell BeachBreak because he pays tribute to a place he loves.
There is now a version of Pride, part of the proceeds this month will go to help two residency programs for artists on Fire Island.
“It gives us the opportunity to give back to the community, which is great,” Lovevasser said.
The NYC Pride March special, co-hosted by Angelica Ross along with WABC’s Ken Rosetta, Lauren Glasberg and Sam the Champion, will return for the sixth year in a row on ABC 7 from 12:00 to 15:00 on ET on Sunday, June. 26, as well as on abc7NY.com, ABC News Live and ABC7 New York’s Connected TV Apps on streaming platforms Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV and Roku
