FAYETTEVILLE, NC (WNCN) — A man drove his truck into part of a Japanese restaurant after getting into a fight with other customers early Sunday morning, according to Fayetteville Police.
At approximately 12:18 a.m., officers said they were called to Mikoto’s Japanese Restaurant in the 7900 block of Raeford Road in reference to a disturbance in the parking lot.
They said the caller told them multiple shots had been fired at a pickup truck that was leaving the scene.
When police arrived, they found 22-year-old Joshua Caleb Hunt had gotten into a fight with other people in the outdoor seating area of the restaurant.
Investigators said he was under the influence of a “noxious substance” when he left the restaurant and got into a white pickup truck in the parking lot.
Hunt intentionally drove the truck through the restaurant’s seating area and hit some customers, according to the police department.
Police said he then backed the truck back into the rest area, hitting customers a second time.
They said two customers were taken to the hospital with minor injuries and a third person refused to be transported.
The truck was shot at and fled the scene, officers said.
According to them, the person who fired from the truck has not yet been identified.
Officers said they found the truck, Hunt and another person Hunt was with at the time of the incident.
They detained both men.
Police later determined that the second man had nothing to do with Hunt’s actions and released him.
Hunt is accused of:
- Two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to murder, causing serious bodily injury
- Assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury
- Damage to real property
- Unauthorized use of the car
Police said the truck was considered a “lethal weapon” in connection with the allegations.
He was taken to the Cumberland County Jail and held on a $300,000 bond.
