A man who tried to rob a store wearing women’s panties covering his face was thwarted by several armed customers, according to Georgia police.
The accused robber entered the Ideal Mart store in Elliga, Ga., on January 9 around 6:30 p.m., posing as a customer buying an energy drink, police said. Having grabbed a drink in the store, the man pulled down women’s panties from his neck to his face and pointed a gun at the clerk behind the counter, according to a press release from the Elijai Police Department.
At that time, there were three more buyers in “Ideal Mart”. The man did not know that they were all armed.
A customer at the Ideal Mart had a legal concealed weapon and intervened in the robbery, police said. A second customer, who was also in the store, went to his vehicle to get his own gun and helped the first customer stop the robbery, police said.
The suspect was trying to leave Ideal Mart when he was met by another armed customer who was at one of the gas stations down the street, police said.
The suspect was unarmed and had nowhere to go, and police say the first customer ordered two other armed customers not to shoot the suspect.
Officers arrived at 6:36 p.m. and used a Taser on the suspect when he refused to comply with commands, police said.
The suspect’s wife was sitting in a car in the parking lot and was found when other officers arrived, police said. The woman was taken into custody without any problems.
The suspect is charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, police said. The suspect and his wife are being held without bond.
