CHARLOTTE, NC (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – A juvenile was shot and killed by a citizen while trying to steal a car in southwest Charlotte, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Wednesday.

Officers responded to calls about the incident around 10 a.m. Wednesday near 100 Southwold Drive in southwest Charlotte.

The juvenile was found with a gunshot wound and was taken to an area medical center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

An initial investigation indicated the shooting occurred when the suspect attempted to steal a car and a citizen intervened and fired shots into the car, police said in a statement.

CSI and the Crimes Against Children Unit were among the departments that responded to the scene. At this time, there is no indication of any charges against either party and the investigation is ongoing.
