DURHAM, NC — A family of five escaped from a house fire on Monday morning.
Firefighters from the Durham Fire Department responded to the two-story home in the 1000 block of Worth Street around 7 a.m.
Thirty firefighters worked for about 10 minutes to extinguish the fire, which started on the second floor.
Two adults and three children made it outside safely, but one person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and an ankle injury.
No one was taken to the hospital.
The home was damaged by smoke and fire and the American Red Cross will assist the family.
The cause of the fire has been ruled accidental, according to the department’s chief, David Swain.
