Lincoln County, NC (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – A woman was killed and two others were seriously injured when a car veered off the road on Monday afternoon and crashed into a tree in Lincoln County, a North Carolina road patrol said.

According to the military, the crash happened around 4:05 p.m. on Monday when a Mitsubishi Outlander, which was driving north on Old Planck Road, veered off the road to the right and collided with a tree near Marisop Road.

Charles Hudson, a 43-year-old Outlander driver, and a 37-year-old woman were seriously injured and taken to a hospital in Charlotte.

A front-seat passenger, 46-year-old Amy Gibson from Conway, Carlamina, died at the scene.

According to the military, neither Gibson nor the other passenger was wearing a seat belt.

Old Plank Road was closed for about two hours after the crash on Monday, officials said.

The investigation is still ongoing.
