LOWELL, NC (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – Lowell and Gaston County police spent hours reviewing evidence from a crash at Redbud Drive and Wilkinson Boulevard.

The multi-vehicle crash happened at 7:09 p.m. Thursday; Nikki McCaskill worked at a local car dealership.

“It just turned into the wrong situation so quickly,” McCaskill said.

Investigators say they are still trying to figure out exactly what happened.

When police arrived, the man was suffering from a gunshot wound; police say 52-year-old Jose Quinones died at the scene.

McCaskill says Quinones was going to check on the people involved in the crash.

“We see the door, he goes to open the door and he falls,” McCaskill added. “So, I’m like he gave that door a big tug. Well, the customer is standing because I’m appraising her car. The customer standing there says, no, I think he’s been shot because we hear a bang, but there’s so much noise and commotion and smoke and everything. You don’t think about crashing or shooting; you think it’s just a coincidence.

The police detained a minor at the scene. Because of the suspect’s age, police are not releasing their identities, but they have charged the teenager with 2nd degree murder.

“To see that and then to see someone get shot, then you see them come to put the tarp up. Everyone witnessed what I just saw.’

McCaskill and the staff are still processing what they witnessed, and she says if you haven’t already, give your loved ones a big hug.

“Give your loved ones a kiss before you leave,” McCaskill added. “Make sure you live each day as if it were your last.”
