Bad Elf opens base / rover function to ensure GNSS accuracy at the survey level anywhere

Bad elf introduced the base / rover function built on its Bad Elf Flex GNSS receiver. The new base and rover feature provides affordable centimeter accuracy to surveyors and geospatial professionals working anywhere in the world.

The solution consists of two Flex GNSS receivers and two UHF radios, allowing customers to collect high-precision field data in areas where traditional real-time kinematic corrections (RTK) or cellular communications are not available. Existing Flex customers can upgrade by adding Flex radio kits.

Bad Elf has developed a base / rover with an emphasis on accuracy, accessibility and versatility. Bad Elf Flex provides reliable data collection either as a standalone receiver or in combination with apps on iOS or Android phones and tablets. The checklist-based workflow provides sustainable results and eliminates many common problems associated with setting up and deploying a base / rover solution.

“The Bad Elf app will guide the user through these steps and more, and it doesn’t allow you to continue a project until each checklist is completed,” said Larry Fox, vice president of marketing and business development at Bad Elf. “Automated checklists simplify every process so that geospatial experts and surveyors of any level of experience get reliable results.”

The basic function requires only one Flex Extreme and a radio set. Customers can choose Standard or Extreme Flex with a radio kit for rovers. The use of Flex Standard and one daily token provides access to the rover function.

Bad Elf’s flexible “Hardware as a Service” model provides customers with a mechanism to further reduce capital costs for a complete base / rover system. In addition, customers can deploy multiple rovers in any configuration for large projects.

“For about one-third of the purchase price of competing products available today, our base / rover feature makes the one-centimeter survey a reality worldwide,” Fox said. “And our pay-as-you-go Flex Token model dramatically reduces operating costs by allowing users to activate – and pay for – only those levels of service that are needed on a given day.”

Complete base / rover kits are available immediately, as well as a la carte options for existing Flex customers. The Flex base / rover solution complies with FCC operating standards in the United States. Bad Elf gives customers complete instructions on purchasing a radio and call sign license.
