Dylan Brewer of Clemson had two IRBs on Sunday.

Special for the state

Cooper Ingle had a hit in every game this season, so why would it stop now?

Clemson’s sophomore on four holes scored his first home run of his career and finished eighth in the Tigers’ 5-2 victory over the Gamecocks 5 Sunday at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. He finished the weekend series with four hits.

For the first time since 1996, when Clemson won all four games, the Tigers conducted a series of three or four games. They won both games in 1999 and won three of four in 2006. In 2010, the series moved to the current three-game format.

Clement’s 11-0 start brought the Tigers two games closer to 13-0 in 2002. The icing on the cake was the record crowd of 6636 at Doug Kingsmore Stadium in the series finale. He broke the previous record of 6524, which was set on March 6, 2016, when Clemson defeated South Carolina 4-1 and won the series 2-1.

Clemson never lagged behind in the game and, as in Saturday’s game, hit the board in the fourth inning. The fight in South Carolina played a role in the fact that Aidan Hunter hit Benjamin Blackwell with a step when the bases were loaded to kill Briar Hawkins. Completed the number of Dylan Brewer’s singles with two RBIs.

South Carolina made it a game and joined one after six innings. The Gamecocks tied together a pair of shots in the fifth and took advantage of two walks in the sixth to score a run in each inning. However, after that the well dried up, and the “Tigers” retreated to the eighth.

Nick Clayton won for the Tigers, allowing one earned run with four strokes with four outs and one walk for 4.2 innings.

On Tuesday at 16:00 at Doug Kingsmore Stadium Clemson starts five games in the next seven days, taking on Tuesday at 16:00 East Tennessee. South Carolina (7-4) returns home to play with Xavier on Tuesday at 7pm at the Founders Park.
