The concept of a quick daily chicken sandwich from Ashley Christensen has set a date for the opening of his place in Durham.
BB’s Crispy Chicken will open on Friday, March 25 at the new University Hill Mall in Durham. The move marks the first venture in Durham for award-winning chef Raleigh’s Poole’s Diner.
BB’s first Crispy Chicken opened last October at the Midtown East Mall in Raleigh, near Wegman’s on Wake Forest Road. The new fast-paced everyday brand was created as a local response to the nation’s fascination with chicken sandwiches. Christensen collaborated with MDO Holdings to create BB, initially launching from three locations in the triangle.
The BB menu is built on fried chicken sandwiches that delay the crunch for over an hour. The brand calls it “stunningly crunchy” and has nine different sandwiches and over a dozen different sauces.
Vegetarian options include sandwiches with fried green tomatoes, and the side dishes menu – french fries, french fries, waffles, salad and fried cheeses.
When BB’s was launched in Raleigh as one of Triangle’s most anticipated restaurant projects over the past couple of years, visitors lined up hours before the doors opened.
Durham BB’s will be located at 3109 Shannon Rd., Suite 200 in University Hill Mall, which also includes Happy & Hale, Bul Box, Alpaca, Zambrero’s and future appliance Gizmo Brew Works.
A third local BB’s will open this spring at Cary’s Parkside Commons mall.
Outside the triangle, the brand is looking for future locations in Charlotte, Triad, Wilmington and even Richmond, Virginia, MDO President Doug Wharf said last year.
