Cristiano Ronaldo made it clear that his three goals on Saturday against Norwich City were important only because Manchester United won the match but reminded readers that it was the 60th in his huge career.
The 37-year-old footballer won the game for his team as it was a narrow Red Devils victory over the Canaries at Old Trafford 3-2.
The Portuguese put their team ahead with a score of 2-0 before the first half, but Kieran Dowell and Teemu Puki managed to stun the locals, bringing the club level of the Premier League to the basement.
However, Ronaldo came to the rescue when he executed a free kick in 15 minutes of play and kept United on the hunt for the top four, especially with Tottenham and Arsenal both lost on Saturday.
It was a great way for the legend to make the 60th hat-trick of his career for the club and the country, 14 years after he scored his first goal for United against Newcastle.
He was thrilled with the three points he wanted to note, but perhaps even more shocked by the next three-goal bust.
“We are very pleased with this victory and with bringing us back to the Premier League,” Ronaldo wrote on Instagram. “As I said before, individual achievements are only worth it if they help us achieve our goals in the team, and the 60th hat-trick in my career is much more important because it brought us 3 points.
“Well done, guys, a colossal effort from everyone. We don’t give up, we fight to the end! ‘
This could prove to be a decisive victory for the Red Devils, who do not go in fifth place and lag behind the Spurs in fourth place by only three points, albeit with a much worse goal difference.
They are a considerable distance from a place in the Champions League, but they will do well to improve their position in their next game by meeting Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday.
