Dairy Farmers of America acquires processing plants

KANSAS CITY, CAN. — Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) has announced the acquisition of two processing facilities formerly owned by Orrville, Ohio-based SmithFoods, a regional producer of dairy products, beverages and ice cream. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The processing facilities — one in Richmond, Indiana, and the other in Pacifica, Missouri — produce extended-shelf life dairy and non-dairy beverages, as well as ice cream and cocktail mixes.

Now that the plants are under DFA’s Dairy Brands division, they will be renamed Richmond Beverage Solutions and Pacific Dairy Solutions.

DFA shared that the change in ownership will not affect operations at either plant, and the management teams already in place will remain in charge and employees at both sites will retain their jobs.

“Consumer interest in extended shelf life dairy products is growing, and this acquisition aligns with our strategy to increase commercial investment and expand our ownership in this space,” said Pat Panko, DFA executive vice president and president of DFA Dairy Brands North. . “With the addition of these plants, we have the opportunity to not only grow our customer base, but also create synergies between our other extended shelf life and aseptic facilities.”
