CHARLOTTE, NC — An animal rescue group is trying to find a home for a dog abandoned at the Charlotte airport.

The older puppy, ironically named “Girl”, does not leave Robin King.

“We took her to the vet and she’s very good with everyone,” King said. “And just lays down on the sofa and feels at home.”

King said they were inseparable.

“It was just an emergency, but I felt like I could do it at this point,” King said.

“When you find a dog that’s been abandoned like that and you just feel compelled to make sure they never go through that again,” said Daryl Strickland, founder Animal Rescue Furbabies.

Strickland thinks of King, who was a first-time adoptive mother, as a fairy godmother.

Strickland said she picked up the dog at Charlotte Douglas International Airport on Tuesday.

An airline employee alerted Furbabies after the puppy was abandoned by its owner who couldn’t fit in its travel crate.

“This is the box she was going to use to take ‘The Girl,'” Strickland said. “It obviously wouldn’t fit under the seat in front of her.”

Some dog lovers are trying to give the 14-year-old beagle a fresh start with a new family.

“She’s an older dog, so she would need to go to an older family,” King said. “She likes her little walks, but [she’s] not very enthusiastic, like little dogs.”

King is sure the girl will be thrilled to find her forever home.

The rescue team said the girl needed blood and dental work before she could go home. The group estimates the vet fee will cost about $1,000.
