CATAUBA COUNTY, NC (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – A driver whose car was hit by another vehicle while trying to make a turn was killed Tuesday near Newton, according to the North Carolina State Patrol.

Troopers responded to the incident around 5pm on Tuesday at St James Church Road and Sunset Street. Newton resident Vance Bentley, 82, was found with injuries and was taken to Area Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

An initial investigation showed Bentley was driving a minivan and was trying to turn from a stop sign when he was struck by another vehicle, records show.

Two passengers of his car were also taken to the district medical center with non-life-threatening injuries, the traffic police said.

According to authorities, there is no suspicion of impairment and no charges have been filed.
