No matter how special an Italian motorcycle is, there is always an even more special edition in development. Something with such big, squeaky drops of features is poured on it that you feel the usual ugliness when you fantasize about the standard version forever.

Such a motorcycle is the latest Ducati, the Panigale V4 SP2 (SP stands for Sport Production). It is declared the “best car for the race track”, and although this title is a well-beaten donkey in the world of motorcycles, it is fair to say that this bike will not be a limiting factor if most people get on the track.

What you are looking at now is the most fruity version of the already impressive one Panigale V4 superbike. This means carbon fiber rims, matte carbon fairings, Brembo Stylema R brake calipers, MCS master cylinder, Ducati-tastic dry clutch optimized to reduce “jump” when slowing down, facilitated conversion of chain and 5 chain chains.

These carbon rims with five split spokes remove 1.4 kg (3 lbs) of unsprung mass from the motorcycle, also significantly reducing inertia when changing direction. It’s not that the suspension sounds like it needs a lot of help to get the job done – it’s an Ohlins electronic system with NPX25 / 30 plugs and a TTX26 shock absorber. These and Ohlins electronic steering dampers are controlled by the Ducati Smart EC 2.0 system, which allows you to “objectively adjust” rather than simply adjust the clickers.

The Euro-V-compatible engine has been revised to offer more than a standard motorcycle, a maximum of 215.5 horsepower instead of 214. Good luck finding that drop in the bucket with your rear speaker! Turn off the standard exhaust for the specially designed full Akrapovic system, and the bike will drop from 5kg (11 lbs) to 168kg (370lbs) and gain 12.5 horsepower to reach a peak of 228 horsepower. Again, this is only two ponies more than you would do the same with a standard motorcycle.

Most of the stunning electronics of the standard Panigale package go unnoticed, although the SP2 comes standard with a GPS module for recording racetrack data and automatic lap time measurement, as well as a data analysis tool you can use to customize your technique if you’re smart enough.

Although it is clearly aimed at racers on the tracks, it comes with mirrors and flashing lights, although you also get a small “racing kit” to mute the holes when you remove them and the license plate holder. There’s also an open clutch cover so you can ring the tambourine and play your people’s song in neutral mode.

The price is certainly disgusting. If the standard Panigale V4 costs $ 23,295 and the Model S starts to get out of control for $ 29,995, the V4 SP2 costs a whopping $ 39,500. Feeling special has a great price tag, but at least you’re not teaching $ 100,000 for it Superleggera V4I guess.
