In Moto2™ qualifying, the Spaniard beat the American by just 0.034s; Vietti and Dixon on the second row after the crash

For the first time since the 2019 Catalunya Grand Prix, Augusto Fernandez (Red Bull KTM Ajo) started from pole position in Moto2™ thanks to his 2:04.103 in qualifying at the Monster Energy British Grand Prix. Second place in Q2 went to Joe Roberts (Italtrans Racing Team), with the American finishing just 0.034s behind Fernandez, with Ai Ogura (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) rounding out the front row.

Fernandes continues his good form; Vietti crash and FP3 Dixon

Roberts set the pace in the opening exchanges after setting a 2:04.752, with Bo Bendsneider (Pertamina Mandalika SAG Team) taking 2nd just 0.020s behind. An early attack by Jake Dixon (Team GASGAS Aspar) put the British rider in 4th ahead of Fernandez, followed by Albert Arenas (Team GASGAS Aspar) in 1st. Celestino Vietti (Mooney VR46 Racing Team) flew up to second before we saw the Italian and Dixon crash in separate incidents. Vietti was unable to get back on the bike, but luckily for Dixon, he was able to get moving again.

Fernandez was back on top by a couple of tenths over Arenas as we saw Roberts pounce to take second from Arenas and the American followed Dixon across the line – the Brit recovering to 6th with one lap to go. Dixon improved again on his final lap but could only manage 6th, while Roberts also went faster to seal 2nd. Fernandez didn’t need it, but he also made time on the final lap to ensure he started from pole position for the first time since 2019.

Arenas leads the second row of the grid, ahead of the disappointing Vietti and Dixon, while Bendsnejder claims a solid 7th starting position at Silverstone. Alonso Lopez (CAG Speed Up), Marcel Schroeter (Liqui Moly Intact GP) and Aron Canet (Flexbox HP40) round out the top 10.

Vietti, Fernandes and Ogura – your three main title contenders – all have top-five starts at the British Grand Prix, setting us up nicely for an exciting showdown on Sunday. Remember that the Moto2™ race starts after this weekend’s MotoGP™ race with lights out at 14:30 local time (GMT+1).
