Energetic Corporation — a leading developer of RF charging for wireless power networks — and Flagship, a technology company that enables retailers to make better, faster and more informed decisions for their business and customers — today announced the first retail deployment of Wiliot. IoT Pixel Smart Tags powered by WattUp PowerBridges in Sydney. All tags in the deployment are powered by multiple Energous WattUp PowerBridges.
Bridging the gap in retailers’ understanding from online to brick-and-mortar stores, Flagship helps retailers build the next-generation brick-and-mortar store. Flagship’s unique technology automatically tracks the movement of goods through the store, fitting room or warehouse, helping retailers understand consumer behavior in-store and gain invaluable and actionable information, such as:
- Instant and automatic counting of stores, pantries and warehouses, allowing staff to focus their time on customer service
- Loss prevention information to track inventory and reduce theft and shrinkage
- Fitting room sessions to better understand what customers are trying on, what sizes and what they end up buying
- Replenishment requirements to get an accurate end-of-day inventory count for each store, indicating which items need to be replenished from the warehouse
- Actionable merchandising insights to know how customers interact with products for the best merchandising, including items that are tried on, items that are tried on together, and items that convert the most
“This is our first deployment of a wireless power network for RF tags, and we are very excited about the results Flagship has achieved using thousands of Wiliot IoT Pixel tags powered by our WattUp PowerBridges,” said Cesar Johnston, CEO of Energous. “This successful deployment can be replicated not only for other retail applications, but also for industrial IoT, healthcare, smart homes and smart offices. By focusing on these markets, Energous is well positioned to wirelessly power today’s devices and tomorrow’s innovations.”
Wiliot IoT Pixels are low-cost active Bluetooth tags that can be attached to just about anything, with sensors that can monitor light, humidity, proximity, and temperature, among other inputs. In the deployment, multiple IoT pixels simultaneously receive power from Energous’ WattUp PowerBridges, allowing them to transmit data transmitted through an Energous transmitter that intelligently filters and transmits tag data to the Wiliot Cloud.
The Australian retail store rollout is a pilot program involving thousands of Wiliot tags and is being deployed by Flagship, a retail technology company that enables brick-and-mortar stores to track their products in real-time with detailed customer browsing information. Wiliot tags in the Flagship retail deployment capture important information such as inventory integrity (in-store inventory, location) and sizes being tried on and purchased.
“While brick-and-mortar stores today face many business challenges, they have an unrivaled ability to capture real-time inventory and purchase data, providing incredible insights,” said Simon Molnar, Founder and CEO of Flagship . “However, if the IoT devices responsible for collecting this data lose power or are otherwise unreliable, so does the data. We are thrilled with the progress of our joint pilot program with Energous to provide reliable wireless power to thousands of Wiliot IoT pixel tags in stores and look forward to continuing the partnership.”
“The work that Flagship has done with Energous and Wiliot technology is very significant,” said Nir Drabkin, Wiliot’s Australia Sales and Solutions Manager. “The first is to demonstrate the Wiliot partner ecosystem in action, scaling the deployment of our ‘Massive IoT’ technology around the world. It’s also a great example of a revolution in retail that uses the power of the cloud to connect the digital to the physical in real time. Continuous, real-time inventory enables far more efficient retail operations and a customer experience that makes routine shopping worth leaving the couch.”
Capable of simultaneously powering multiple devices at a distance, Energous’ WattUp PowerBridge transmitters send power and can act as a data channel for connected IoT devices such as sensors, electronic shelf labels, trackers, IoT tags, battery-free devices and more. Multiple WattUp PowerBridge transmitters create a WattUp wireless power network capable of spanning unlimited distances for deployment in large facilities such as retail stores, industrial warehouses, manufacturing plants, logistics centers, etc. The WattUp Wireless Power Network provides a consistent level of power for IoT devices, eliminating the need for expensive management and battery replacements or reliance on restrictive wires and cables. This innovation ushers in a new reality of mobile, waterproof, smaller, maintenance-free and easy-to-implement devices.
