A 5-year-old boy was found dead hours after he disappeared from his Florida home, police said.
Orange County Sheriff’s Office announced the death of Aaron Penn with a “heavy heart”. Aaron was described by the sheriff’s office as a “non-verbal child with autism.”
“We have to announce that Aaron Peña was found dead in a body of water near his home,” the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post Thursday, Nov. 24. “We mourn his loss and our prayers are with his family.”
Aaron is missing around 12:45 pm on Wednesday after his mother noticed the back door was open, according to WESH.
“He’s also attracted to bodies of water, so I immediately went to the pool and the pond,” Melissa Stanton told WESH of her son.
His disappearance prompted the sheriff’s office to issue a missing child report. Aaron was wearing a brown long sleeve shirt and dinosaur pajama pants when he went missing from his home in Orlando, the sheriff’s office said.
Aaron, the youngest of Stanton’s three children, was found in the pond around 1 a.m. on Thursdayreports WKMG.
The sheriff did not release a cause of death.
