LAS VEGAS – Last at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards, which are presented on Sunday in Las Vegas (all local):
Chris Stapleton’s “Starting Over” won a Grammy for Best Country Album.
Stapleton received the award on Sunday on the birthday of his 4-year-old twins, two of five children, and said he was saddened that the career that brought him such awards had forced him to be away from home on so many special days.
It was Stapleton’s third Grammy of the day.
Earlier for the song “You Should Probably Leave” he became the best country solo performance for the record third time.
Both he and three authors won the country song of the year for the song “Cold”.
Stapleton, who also performs later in the show, has won eight Grammy Awards in his career.
Silk Sonic holds a funk Grammy.
The Grammy Award for Song of the Year went to the duo Leave The Door Open.
The award for songwriting goes to two members of the duo, Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak, as well as two co-authors.
The award came first during Sunday’s Grammy telecast from the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas.
Mars and .Paak rose and sounded when victory was announced and a song played.
The two men who performed at the opening of the show also won a Grammy for Best R&B Performance before the telecast.
Host Trevor Noah opened the Grammy Awards show, which he said will be partly a party, partly a concert, and some trophies will be presented between them.
On Sunday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, comedian and host of the “Daily Show” gave a monologue at the beginning of the performance of Silk Sonic and Olivia Rodrigo.
He walked among the tables set near the stage instead of theatrical chairs.
“Look at this room, it’s a party, everyone is hanging out, we have tables, we’re taking pictures. Last year we took pictures like Moderna and Pfizer, ”Noah said.
He added: “We will dance, we will sing, we will keep the names of the people out of our mouths.”
The crowd laughed at the fact that Will Smith shouted at Chris Rocky not to talk about the name of Jada Pinkett Smith’s wife after he uttered Rock on the Oscar stage a week earlier.
It was the second year in a row that Noah hosted the show, but the first with a typical Grammy crowd crowd.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, last year’s awards were held in an open-air pavilion in Los Angeles with a small audience of nominees and guests.
Silk Sonic is back in the 70s with a stage inspired by Vegas to open Sunday’s Grammy Awards ceremony in Sin City with spinning roulette wheels on screens.
The duo of Bruno Mars and Anderson. Mars began the show by urging a crowd in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Arena to stand up and dance.
The couple received two awards during the ceremony before the telecast and were nominated for record and song of the year. The duo’s song “Leave the Door Open” and “Pick Up Your Feelings” by Jasmine Sullivan won the award for best R&B performance, and “Leave the Door Open” won the award for best R&B song.
BTS arrived at the Grammy in full force after one of their participants recently received a positive test for COVID-19.
All seven members of the Korean megastar boy band walked the carpet in Louis Vuitton suits with sneakers of different colors from bright white to muted blue. Participant V wore a bouquet of giant flower pins.
The band, nominated for the hit “Butter”, will also perform on the show.
A member of Chonguk recently had a positive test for coronavirus,
Olivia Rodrigo has won her first Grammy career, which could be the start of a great night.
The 19-year-old received the award on Sunday for best solo performance of pop music for her viral hit “Drivers License”.
The viral single made the Disney Channel actor a pop star and turned her album “Sour” into one of the biggest in a year.
Rodrigo did not accept the award in person, which was presented before the Grammy telecast, but is scheduled to perform during the show. She walked the red carpet in a black sheath dress from Vivienne Westwood with a purple shiny finish.
On Sunday night, she was nominated for six more Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist and Album of the Year.
The Foo Fighters received three Grammy Awards just days after the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins.
The band won a Grammy for Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song and Best Rock Album.
No one from the band accepted the award at Sunday’s ceremony in Las Vegas.
Hawkins has been the band’s drummer for 25 years and was a best friend of Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl.
They were to perform on the Grammy TV channel. Producers say Hawkins will be honored during the ceremony.
Hawkins died at the age of 50 in Bogota, Colombia, where on March 25 the band was to play a music festival.
A slap in the face at the Oscars last week at the Oscars.
Levar Burton, host of ceremonies before Sunday’s show, introduced comedian Nate Bargatze and told everyone to stay in their seats.
“I have to warn everyone, the next presenter is a comedian,” Burton said. “I have to warn everyone, stay in your seats and keep your hands to yourself.”
Borgatse came out with a comically large helmet just in case.
“They said comedians should wear them now to awards shows,” he joked. “It doesn’t even cover your face.”
The two referred to the shocking moment on the Oscar broadcast when actor Will Smith hit comedian Chris Rock. Grammy host Trevor Noah was also expected to touch on the controversy.
Chick Correa and Vicente Fernandez received the posthumous Grammy Award.
Jazz giant Corea, who died in February 2021, received two awards on Sunday: for best impromptu jazz solo and best Latin jazz album with Elian Elias and Chucho Valdes.
Mexican singer, actor and cultural icon Fernandez became the best regional album of Mexican music for the song “A Mis 80s”.
Fernandez died in December at the age of 81.
Other posthumous Grammys are possible on Sunday for Chris Cornell, who died five years ago and was nominated for Best Rock Performance. And the Foo Fighters, who lost their drummer Taylor Hawkins just over a week ago, are vying for three Grammys.
First the Oscars, and now the Summer of the Soul has won a Grammy.
The Best Musical Award nomination came a week after the Oscar-winning Summer of the Soul moment was interrupted by Will Smith slapping Chris Rock. Director Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson nodded briefly at the Oscars, saying the film was on a journey from the Sundance Film Festival “until … last week,” he said, laughing.
Instead, Questlow focused his speech on the actors featured in the film, naming many of them.
While the winners of the Grammy premiere ceremony, where more than 70 awards are presented, are usually limited to 45 seconds and one speaker, four Summer of Soul winners were able to perform. (Mostly continuous – the band started after the second performer, but stopped quickly.)
“Who has a better week than Questlove?” Asked Levar Burton after the victory. “Nobody!”
“Summer of the Soul” tells about the forgotten and invisible cultural festival in Harlem in 1969, which featured young Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Sly and the Family Stone, 5th Dimension BB King and many others.
Johnny Mitchell won a Grammy and rarely appeared on the award stage to accept her.
Mitchell became the best historical album on Sunday afternoon for “Joni Mitchell Archives – Vol. 1: Early years (1963–1967) ”.
The 78-year-old Mitchell needed a cane and escort help to get to the podium, but she parted ways and danced as she rose to take her ninth Grammy career.
“Thanks to the Academy for this nomination and this victory, I didn’t expect it,” she said.
Together with her music team, she thanked her physiotherapist, whom she called “my angel.”
Seven years ago, Mitchell had a brain aneurysm that prevented her from speaking or walking.
On Friday night, the Academy of Recording Arts honored her MusiCares Person of the Year, an award that honors a career of artistic achievement and charity. John Legend, Brandi Carlisle and John Batiste played her songs out of respect for her.
Lee Jay Osborne delivered an emotional speech at the Grammy Awards after he and his brother won the Younger Me Award.
Osborne, who admitted to being gay last year, held back tears as he reflected on the moment and the support he received. He noted that “Younger Me” was written in response to its release. The song won the best performance by a country duo or band on a Sunday afternoon.
“I never thought I would be able to play music professionally because of my sexuality. And, of course, I never thought I would take the Grammy here on stage after doing what I thought would be life-changing and perhaps very negative, ”Osborne said.
“And so I’m tonight, not only am I accepting this Grammy Award with my brother, whom I love so much, but I’m here with a man I love, and he loves me in return.
“I don’t know what I was so lucky about.”
Osborne plays with his brother John in the role of the Osborne brothers.
The Brothers Osbarne victory came minutes after Chris Stapleton won a Grammy for best third-time solo performance in the country. He took the trophy on Sunday for his single “You Should Probably Leave”. He also received awards in 2018 and 2016.
The project, which turned Bridgerton into a musical, won a Grammy Award.
On Sunday afternoon, Emily Beer and Abigail Barlow won the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater for Bridgeton’s Unofficial Musical.
They happily accepted the award, noting that the project began a year ago with the question of what Bridgeton would have been like if it had been a musical.
Levar Burton presented them with the award during the Grammy premiere ceremony, where more than 70 awards are presented.
Burton has a double duty – he is also nominated for best album of colloquial words.
While John Legend was awarded for his musical achievements, the Grammy singer used the stage of the Academy of Recording Arts to pay tribute to the black music culture that shaped him and the world.
The legend explained how black music set trends for listeners around the world during the Black Music Collective Academy event, which took place on Saturday night in Las Vegas. He has been awarded the Global Impact Award for personal and professional achievement in the music industry. Like Legend, the event was filled with significant messages that touched on the importance of recognizing black music creators, and included many popular performances.
Several performers, such as Billy Isle, Olivia Rodrigo and John Batiste, have a chance to make their names in books on the Grammy story on Sunday.
Ailish could become the first artist to win a record three times in a row, and the only artist along with Paul Simon to receive the award three times.
She was able to join Adele as the only one to win three major categories – record, song and album of the year – twice.
Trevor Noah is returning for the second time to host a live show in Las Vegas on CBS and Paramount + starting at 8pm on Oriental.
