Each computer comes with a default browser. Usually it comes from Big Tech, and it’s not necessarily the best choice for everyone. You may need a browser with the best privacy features or advanced settings.

If you’re using a Mac, you’re probably used to the Apple Safari browser. Safari has been the default browser for Macs since the release of Mac OS X Panther. But just like on a Windows PC, you can change the default browser and search engine.

Take a break from your Safari

While it’s not always best to use the browser that comes with your computer, it’s not necessarily a bad idea when it comes to a Mac. Safari blocks malicious websites and protects you from malware and phishing scams, as well as blocking pop-ups.

But if you want to change your Mac’s default browser, it’s simple. Here’s how:

  • Press the button Apple menu and go to System Settings> General.
  • Select a web browser from The default browser menu.
  • If you don’t see the browser you want, go to its website and download it. You can install multiple browsers on your Mac and change the default at any time.

To get Firefox, go to the page download page and press the button Download now button.

To get the Brave, go to download page and press the button macOS Intel or macOS ARM64 button, depending on your Mac’s configuration.

To get Tor, go to download page and press the button Download for macOS button.

To get Edge, go to download pagepress the button Download for macOS button, then press the button Mac with Intel chip or Mac with Apple chip button, depending on your Mac’s configuration.

Change your Mac’s default search engine

Safari uses Google as its default search engine, but you can change that at any time. Here’s how:

  • Open Safari> Optionsthen press Search.
  • Press the button Search engine menu and make your choice.
