What is a GIF?
GIFs are animated stickers that are usually an emotion or a reaction. These can be cartoons or real videos from television or movies. With some programs, for example Reviewyou can even make your own GIFs.
GIFs have become the standard in almost all messaging programs in recent years, a versatile and fun way to respond to messages and convey your opinion. From Slack to WhatsApp and Google Messages you can easily use GIFs to liven up your conversation. Here’s how to find and use them on Android and iOS.
GIF files on iOS
If you belong to the iPhone nation, you can send GIFs via messages on your phone. There are many built-in options that you can sort by searching for key phrases in the GIF section of the Messages program.
The app has quite a few buttons, so you need to look closely to find the right option:
- Open the messaging app on your iPhone.
- Enter a text box to open the keyboard and the shortcuts bar.
- Click on the red search icon below the text box to open the GIFs.
- Find the GIF you want or scroll down to find common options.
- Select the desired GIF and it will appear in the text box.
- Add a comment or send it alone by clicking Submit button.
There are several ways to send GIFs via Android using apps like WhatsApp and GIPHY, but the easiest way will always be via Google Messages. In addition to searching by keywords, as on iOS, in Google Messages you can also search by category, choosing emotions, trends or certain styles.
Sending a GIF to Google Messages is relatively similar to sending to iOS:
- Open Google Posts on your Android phone.
- Open the message in which you send your GIF.
- Click on face symbol inside the message box.
- Choose GIF icon.
- Search and find the GIF you want.
- Choose it.
- Strike Submit.
Other ways to have fun with messages
You can send GIFs to hundreds of other apps on your phone such as WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger, just like you send them to iOS and Android, and there are some other apps like GIPHY.
GIPHY is a program available at Android and IOS which gives you access to a library of thousands of GIFs that you can send from your phone. Once you download the program, it will appear as an option in Messages and Google Messages. You will need to select it and search the library as with embedded GIFs.
