How to set up separation on Arlo cameras

Arlo is one of the most well-known brands in smart homes, especially when it comes to security devices. And he has several cameras of the best in this regard. But while most have a similar set of impressive features, there is at least one feature that most users may not be aware of. Namely, you can customize the separation of your Arlo cameras to better suit your network environment or needs.

For example, if your camera lags behind or responds slowly, it may be due to the quality of the network and its location. A simple refusal of permission can compensate for this. As a result, you get a cleaner and more consistent experience overall.

Likewise, lowering the resolution can help in other situations. But what if you need to raise the resolution again? For example, if you set up a cellular network and / or get a better connection speed. This can also be achieved. And, essentially, the process in order to do the same. However, this is not something that is necessarily easy to find if you do not know where to look to change the resolution for your Arlo cameras.

This guide can help you achieve this.

Here’s how to set up separation on supported Arlo cameras

Now, before you get started, it should be noted that this guide – like many others have published here – makes a couple of assumptions. First, you have already installed and executed initial setup for your Arlo cameras. And second, that you have an Arlo account ready to sign in.

It should also be noted that the interface you see may differ significantly from what is shown in the manual. For example, there are always differences in the interface of Apple and Android phones. And the user interface for tablets is also a little different. What’s more, there are undoubtedly options you’ll see in your Arlo cameras that aren’t in our test device. This is because we use the budget security camera Arlo Essential Indoor Security.

The process itself, however, should be identical in terms of the options you choose and their approximate location.

To get started you will need to open the Arlo app and then log in. With Arlo cameras you can log in with your fingerprint or password. As we have in the sample image below.

Next, scroll – if necessary – to find the camera or cameras for which you want to set the resolution. At the time of writing we only had one Arlo camera installed, so we didn’t need to scroll through our image below. On the card of the corresponding camera, select the settings icon from the three dots or gears at the bottom left of the interface.

Then select the “Device Settings” option that appears at the bottom of the interface. Specifically, at the top of the bottom panel of the UI tab, as shown below.

Arlo download the full set of available options for the selected camera. Complete with camera name or title and camera image. The options here are quite wide. So the one we want is not on the home screen. Instead, you’ll need to scroll down to the “Videos” section.

There, select the “Video Settings” option from the list.

In the “Video Settings” section, you’ll see a preview of your camera’s recording, as well as video settings. For example, here you can adjust the brightness of the camera and night vision. But the last option on the page – “Video Sharing”. Choose this option.

Depending on the camera or cameras in your location, Arlo offers a different number of options. For Arlo Essential indoor security cameras, as we use in our sample, the maximum available partition for installation is 1080p. So we chose this option.

For slower or weaker connections a smaller split can help you get more consistent video. This camera also offers 720p video and 480p DVD quality options. Whatever your reason, you can try different options by simply selecting one from the resulting page. You can then test this using the provided preview frames.

So, the last step is to select and install the appropriate partition for your Arlo cameras. The change will be made immediately and saved automatically.

You can now use the chevron-shaped back arrow icon to return to the camera selection page and apply the separation changes to any other Arlo cameras you have left.
