Toronto Maple Leafs put defender Jake Mouzin in reserve with a long-term injury after he suffered a head injury during a 5-2 defeat to the Montreal Canadiens on Monday.
This makes some experts wonder what Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas can do with this LTIR space as the March 21 trading date approaches.
Dubas was busy in the trading market before Muzin’s injury, sending Nick Richie to the Arizona Coyotes for Ilya Lubushkin and winger Ryan Dingel, the latter losing after giving up the San Jose Sharks. He also bought minor league goalkeeper Carter Hatton from the Coyotes.
Losing Muzzin in the long run will leave a big hole in Leafs ’blue line. З Cap Friendly show Leafs is pushing for space for the cap, allowing Leafs to exceed the limit by the equivalent of $ 5.625 million if Dubas decides to supplement his list.
Darren Draeger of TSN has offered trading goals such as Hampus Lindholm of the Anaheim Ducks, John Klingberg of the Dallas Stars, Ben Chiaro of the Montreal Canadiens and Mark Giordano of the Seattle Kraken.
Draeger also noted that Leafs would like to add a winger from the top six in his second line. Meanwhile, Elliott Friedman of Sportsnet has suggested that things could be interesting if Dubas uses this LTIR space. As an option, he suggested JT Miller of the Vancouver Canucks.
Dubas has to be careful how he uses this LTIR space. If he uses it to add a player, he will have to lower his salary to become compatible with the limit if Muzin returns by the end of the regular season.
