Man crashes into Greenville apartment after fatal shooting

GREENVILLE, NC — A man crashed his car into a Greenville apartment building Monday after being fatally injured, police said.

Just after midnight, officers responded to an apartment complex at 1806 E. 1st St., The District at Tar River.

Police discovered that a 2000 Nissan Maxima had crashed into a ground floor apartment.

The driver, Isaiah Collins-Smith, 25, was shot in the chest.

Despite lifesaving efforts, Collins-Smith died at ECU Health Medical Center.

A person who lives in an apartment with non-life-threatening injuries was taken to the hospital.

No ECU students were involved, police said.

The shooting is under investigation, but officers believe Collins-Smith was the target.
