Man, teenagers involved in shooting in NC mall parking lot, police say

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (WGHP) — The Winston-Salem Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened in the parking lot of Hanes Mall.

An off-duty Hanes mall officer heard multiple gunshots from the parking lot around 7:45 p.m., Saturday.

Investigators say a witness saw an exchange of gunfire between an unidentified man on foot in the area and several juveniles in a maroon van. A maroon van is said to have driven off towards South Stratford Road.

Police found several spent shell casings in the parking lot near the old Sears store near the mall’s north entrance. As a result of the shelling, five cars without people, as well as a cargo trailer, were damaged.

At this time, the suspects remain unknown and there are no reports that anyone was killed in the incident.

The investigation is active and ongoing. There is no additional information at this time.
