Ralph Ranknik urged Eric ten Hague to sign two new strikers this summer and says he has arrived Manchester United the head must also decide on Cristiano Ronaldothe future.
Speaking after a 1-1 draw with United Chelsea at Old Trafford Ranknik insisted he expects Ten Hague to target the two new forwards.
Red Devils top scorer Ronaldo brought his score to 23 in a season with a great draw in a draw against Chelsea, canceling a strike by Marcos Alonso to earn United a point.
Ronaldo signed a two-year contract when he returned to Manchester United last summer, but the Portuguese legend was linked to leaving the club with some experts suggest he may fall victim to the demanding style of Ten Hag game.
The runner-up, who hopes to stay at Old Trafford next season as a consultant, says he needs to talk to Ronaldo about his future, as United are unlikely to play in the Champions League in Ten Club’s first campaign at Ten Hag.
Asked about Ronaldo’s future after the match against Chelsea, Rangnik said: “This is something we need to talk about between Eric, the management and me.” Christian has another year of contract.
“It’s also important to know what he wants when he wants to stay.”
In a separate interview with Sky Sports, the interim manager added: “Ultimately, it’s up to both Eric and Chris to decide what they want to do.
“It’s not for me to talk about it, but Chris’ performance today was really great.”
The ranking underestimates that his team “Manchester United” is too dependent on Ronaldo, who has scored eight of the last nine goals of the club in the league, but insists that he expects that this summer there will be several new strikers.
“We have to continue to be fair to the players,” he said. “We had quite a few other players scoring goals.
“I remember in my first 10 games we had 10 different scorers. That’s how many opportunities we can create and how many scorers.
“Now we are very much counting on Cristiano, he also showed a good game when he owned Chelsea. But we need to focus on attracting a few new strikers. “
Manchester United’s draw with Chelsea leaves them sixth in the Premier League, behind Arsenal in fourth place by five points in three games. Gunners Mikel Arteta have not only an advantage of five points over United, but also two games in reserve.
