One of the most glorious days of the year has finally come for basketball college fans: Sunday of Choice.
Mark Bergin of WRAL has compiled a guide to everything college fans need to know about Sunday’s election, the March Madness and the 2022 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.
How can I watch?
CBS is scheduled to announce the men’s field with 68 teams for the NCAA tournament at 6pm on Sunday ET.
NCAA.com will also broadcast the brackets live.

What is the schedule of March madness?
March 13: Election Sunday
March 15-16: The first four are in Dayton, Ohio
March 17-18: The first round of the NCAA tournament begins in Cincinnati, Ohio; Fort Worth, Texas; Portland, Oregon; Greenville, South Carolina; Milwaukee; Pittsburgh and San Diego
March 19-20: The second round of the NCAA tournament begins in Cincinnati, Ohio; Fort Worth, Texas; Portland, Oregon; Greenville, South Carolina; Milwaukee; Pittsburgh and San Diego
March 24-25: Sweet 16 begins in San Antonio, San Francisco, Chicago and Philadelphia
March 26-27: Elite Eight begins in San Antonio, San Francisco, Chicago and Philadelphia
April 2: The finale of the four parades in New Orleans
April 4: The NCAA Championship begins in New Orleans
Which teams will get number 1?
Hansa entered the week at No. 1 in the country and won the West Coast Conference tournament. The Bulldogs are almost guaranteed number 1 and will probably be even the best team overall.
Arizona (31-3) took 2nd place in the rankings and beat UCLA on Saturday night in a PAC-12 championship game. It is planned that Wildcats will also receive number 1.
ESPN’s Joe Lunardi predicts that Kansas and Baylor will get the other two numbers 1.
On Saturday, Kansas defeated Texas Tech and won the Big 12 tournament. Since head coach Bill Self became Kansas head coach in 2003, the Jayhawks have won the Big 12 regular season title and the conference tournament nine times in one season. No other Big 12 school has done this more than once in the same period of time.
Lunardi predicts that number 2 seeds will be Kentucky, Auburn, Duke and Purdue.
On Saturday, Kentucky lost to Tennessee in the SEC semifinals. It probably cost Wildcats a chance at number 1.
Vols will play Sunday for the SEC title against Texas A&M. The Wolves have not won an SEC tournament since 1979. The Aggies have not won an SEC tournament since 1987.
Which ACC schools will participate in the NCAA tournament?
Virginia Tech (23-12) is guaranteed to enter the NCAA tournament after defeating Duke in the ACC Championship. This is the first title for the Hokies in the ACC tournament. Saturday’s win also marked four wins in four days for the Hawks.
Lunardi predicts that five ACC schools will take part in the tournament: Duke, North Carolina, Miami, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech.
Lunardi does not plan for Wake Forest (23-9) to participate in the 2022 NCAA Tournament.
Despite losing the ACC championship game to Virginia Tech on Saturday night Duke will take part in the NCAA Tournament, probably as the No. 2 seed. Duke (28-6) ranked 7th in the AP Top 25 College Basketball Poll.
“Tar Hills” from North Carolina (24-9), most likely, broke the ticket to the tournament, winning the final of the regular season to spoil the last time Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski at the indoor stadium “Cameron”.
Coach K is spending his 42nd and final season at Duke.
UNC defeated Virginia in the ACC quarterfinals on Thursday, however in the semifinals lost to Virginia Tech on Friday.
The Blue Devils and Tar Heels were the only two ACC schools to receive a rating earlier in the week. The last time the ACC tournament started was with two or fewer ranked teams in 2013.
Which teams are on the bubble?
As of Saturday night, Lunardi lists the Indiana, Michigan, Wyoming and Texas A&M among his last four teams (for the NCAA tournament).
SMU, Xavier, Oklahoma and Wake Forest are among Lunardi’s last four teams.
After all, a lot depends on two Sunday games:
- Can Texas A&M Aggies guarantee an NCAA tournament appearance if they win the SEC tournament on Sunday.
- Can the Richmond Spiders defeat Davidson in Sunday’s main game Atlantic 10.
Who are the most exciting players in this year’s NCAA tournament?
There are many outstanding college basketball players from the 68 teams that will take part in the NCAA tournament. Here are a few that stand out:
Colin Gillespie, Vilanova
Villan’s senior guard Colin Gillespie and his teammates missed out on their fourth straight Big East championship title, but on Saturday they won the conference tournament title. Gillespie led the Wildcats with 17 points. He scored 10 of his points in the final five minutes of the 54-48 victory over Creighton.
This season, Gillespie is averaging 15.9 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.
Okay of Agbaji, Kansas
Kansas senior guard Ochay Agbaji was named the most outstanding player of the Big 12 tournament. He became the fifth player to win the “Big 12 Player of the Year” and the conference tournament award of the same season. Agbaji joined Marcus Pfizer of Iowa (2000), Tony Allen of Oklahoma (2004), Kevin Durant of Texas (2007) and Marcus Morris of Kansas (2011) to accomplish this feat.
In the second half of the semifinal game Big 12, which took place on Friday, against TCU, Agbaji committed a spectacular lock on the alley.
Drew Tim, Gonzaga
Junior striker Hansagi Drew Tim and his mustache stormed the internet during the 2021 NCAA tournament. Not surprisingly, Timme has signed a sponsorship deal with Dollar Shave Club as part of the NCAA’s “Name, Image and Similarity” policy adopted in June 2021.
This season, Tim is averaging 17.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game.
Coffee Cockburn, Illinois
Illinois junior center Kofi Cockburn is the only player in the country to score an average of 20 points and 10 rebounds per game.
The Jamaican-born Kingston is making an average of just 0.8 assists per game this season. However, his number of free throws has improved from 55.3% in the 2020-2021 season to 65.1% in the 2021-2022 season.
Cockburn angrily attacks the rim. Last season he received an all-American award.
Johnny Davis, Wisconsin
Wisconsin sophomore Johnny Davis won the Big Ten Player of the Year award, averaging 19.7 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.2 points per game.
There are several reports that Davis has played through injuries throughout the season.
Oscar Tsybwe, Kentucky
Kentucky junior striker Oscar Tsybwe is a double-double car, averaging 17.1 points and 15.3 rebounds per game. He is a leading pick-up throughout basketball college.
On Saturday, the SEC Player of the Year recorded his 27th double-double of the season. The Congolese native broke the Kentucky program record of 26 double-doubles set by Dan Isel in 1969-1970.
Jaden Ivy, Purdue
Second-year bodyguard Purdue Jaden Ivey has had a great season and is likely to be selected in the 2022 NBA Draft lottery.
In the 2021-2022 season, Ivy averaged 17.2 points with 45.9% of shots, 36.7% of three-point shots, 4.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game.
Christian Coloco, Arizona
Arizona’s junior center Christian Calacca averages 12.1 points per game and makes 7 rebounds, but he was named PAC-12’s best defensive player of the year.
The Cameroonian-born had four blocks out of 11 Arizona blocks in the PAC-12 championship game.
Who are the best freshmen players at the 2022 NCAA Tournament?
Paola Banchero, Duke
Paolo Banchera of Duke was named ACC freshman of the year.
This week Banchero joined Zion Williamson, Marvin Bailey III and Jay Williams as the only freshman Duke to have made several double-doubles in the ACC tournament over the past 25 seasons.
Banchero is projected to be the lottery winner of the 2022 NBA Draft on June 23rd.
Chet Holmgren, Gonzaga
Despite the skinny condition of Hansaga freshman Chet Holmgren, many expect him to be the best choice in the 2022 NBA Draft.
The Holmgren is marked at 7 feet 195 pounds and has a wingspan of 7 feet 6 inches. He will need to add weight when he gets to the NBA. The 19 NBA players listed at 7 feet weigh an average of 250 pounds.
With 61% of shots (41.2% from a distance of three points) Holmgren averaged 14.2 points, 9.6 rebounds, 3.6 blocks and 1.8 assists per game.
Holmgren has more blocks (104) than misses (98) in the 2021-2022 season.
In addition, Holmgren’s father videotaped his son’s game from the stands. Hopefully America will fall in love with the antics of cameraman Dave Holmgren when the time comes for the tournament.
Jabari Smith, Auburn
Like Holmgren, Auburn’s Jabari Smith is also expected to be the best choice in the 2022 NBA Draft.
