The Rocky Mount Police Department moved on Saturday to investigate the murders over the deaths of two infants.
Rocky Mount Police said officers responded to an ambulance call regarding 2 minors who did not respond to the minors around 9:20 a.m. Saturday.
Upon arrival, police said they found a 3-month-old baby and his 1-year-old sister and took them both to the hospital.
Both brothers and sisters were pronounced dead at the hospital.
Rocky Mountain police said Saturday night that their homicide investigation department had arrested the mother and boyfriend and charged them with the deaths of both children.
21-year-old Zharia Noel and 21-year-old Ahmen Butler were charged with two counts of manslaughter and two counts of child abuse.
Noel and Butler each received $ 100,000 in unsecured bonds.
The Rocky Mount Police Department, Homicide Division will continue to investigate the incident. Further charges may be pending reports from a North Carolina forensic expert’s office.
The Rocky Mount Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division and the Department of Social Services are also actively investigating the deaths.
