WENDELL, NC — The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is looking into reports of sexual abuse at a daycare center after multiple complaints were made against the same employee.

According to police, officers began investigating the ABC Land daycare at 601 Raymond Drive on Jan. 4 when several people reported an employee sexually abusing their children.

Almost a week later, on Tuesday, police received a third report of sexual assault against the same employee.

“My 3-year-old told me he was touched in a private area by a male staff member while he was sleeping,” said one of the mothers who filed a police report. “I confronted the owner and she denied it. As far as I know today, the employee is still in daycare.”

The mother says the alleged attack happened a week before Christmas and her child is now seeing a forensic psychologist.

WRAL News went to the daycare to talk to the hostess, but she said, “I don’t have time to talk to you today.”

The day care center has been operating since 1979, according to the website. The company has two locations in Wendell. It is included in five-star institutions where children from newborns to 12 years old are educated.

Wendell Police Capt. John Slaughter told WRAL News that three children were involved in the crash, all 3 years old.

The public can review the results of inspections and violations online in children’s institutions that are on the state register.

Recent violations by ABC Land in December were related to paperwork where some employees were not aware of required briefing and training procedures.

The SBI said the investigation is ongoing, but no charges have been filed.
