Nemanja Matic announced that he would leave Manchester United when his contract expires at the end of the season.
The Serb joined United with Chelsea in 2017 for £ 32 million and held 182 games for the club under Jose MourinhoOle Gunnar Sulscher, Michael Carrick and current interim boss Ralph Rangnik.
But with Eric ten Haag set to arrive at Old Trafford as new permanent coach this summer, the 33-year-old has confirmed that this season will be his last at the club.
After much deliberation, I decided that this season would be my last with Manchester United. I informed the board, the coach and the players about my decision, ”Matic wrote on Instagram.
“It was a great honor and privilege to play for this great club. Many thanks to the fans for their unwavering support.
“Now I will give my all until the end of the season to help my teammates finish as hard as possible.”
Matic is one of four senior players nearing the end of his contracts with Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani and Paul Pogba, which also ended at the end of the season.
The World Cup winner has not reached a new agreement with United and recently suggested he wants to join a club that is better able to win trophies.
“You have to be honest, the last five seasons haven’t suited me – not at all,” Pogba said during an international break last month.
“This year he is dead, we will not win anything. Whether from Manchester United or another club, I want to win trophies. ”
