NCCU celebrates after winning the HBCU National Football Championship

DURHAM, NC (WTVD) — The North Carolina Central University football team is celebrating its 2022 year HBCU Football National Championship name.

The team plans to hold a parade and pep rally on Jan. 21 at 10 a.m. to celebrate their big win.

The football team defeated Jackson State University 41-34 Cricket Celebration Bowl at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

The parade will begin on Cecil Street and travel from Fayetteville Street to the Lawson Street entrance to O’Kelly-Riddick Stadium.

The parade will be followed by a pep rally at the stadium with a ceremony to recognize the Durham Neighbor team and coaching staff, Elaine O’Neill and Chancellor Johnson Akinley.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet and receive autographed posters from the championship-winning team, as well as view and take photos with the Cricket Celebration Bowl and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) championship trophies.

Attendees will include NCCU head football coach Trey Oliver and members of the NCCU football program; sound machine; NCCU Support Group and Eagle mascot Eddie; NCCU Student Leaders; Chancellor Johnson O. Akinley; and Durham City Mayor Elaine O’Neill ’84, L’91.
