North Carolina Police: A man who disappeared many years ago is dead

According to officials, the body found buried behind a house in North Carolina has been identified as a person who disappeared in 2016.

Billy Gene Hammonds was 36 when he was registered missing in Lumberton, about 95 miles south of Raleigh.

More than five years later, an interview led lawmakers to his remains in the backyard, the Robson County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release on May 3.
