A little bit of good news and a lot of good luck from the devastating wildfire burning near the California-Oregon border when a photojournalist rescued a puppy wandering around the ruins of the McKinney fire. Jonathan Rivas said he arrived in the Klamath River community early Saturday morning, just hours after a wildfire broke out that he said caused extensive damage, burning trees and homes. Rivas said he was finishing filming one area when he heard screaming. “I heard a howl in the distance, but I didn’t know what it was, I thought it was a wounded deer or some of the wild animals that are there,” said AIO Filmz photojournalist. “All of a sudden this little puppy comes up and runs up to me. I was very shocked to see him coming out of the rubble.” The pup was clearly excited to see Rivas in the video. Watch the full version of the rescue below. The puppy allowed Rivas to pick him up and put him in the back of his car. “He was very excited, he was wagging his tail, I talk to him like my dog, I picked him up and put him in the trunk of my car,” Rivas said. Before he gave him water to throw him in the shelter. Rivas posted a video on social media where he found the puppy’s family. The puppy was reunited with his family. “Being reunited with their family and hearing their story makes me feel good, I’m just happy, I was in the right place at the right time,” Rivas said.

“He was very excited, he was wagging his tail, I talk to him like my dog, I picked him up and put him in the trunk of my car,” Rivas said.
