It has been four years since the EF-2 tornado tore some parts of Greensboro. “I remember the roofs being taken down,” said Benjamin White, a longtime resident of East Greensboro. “The house they are building across the street – it was so damaged that they had to rebuild the house.” He said the experience taught him to always have a plan. “You have to choose where to go when they say it will come,” he said. Yolanda Harris could not see the storm of 2018 coming: she said she was asleep when the tornado was moving right down her street. “I hope we never get such a tornado again,” Harris said. “I know there are a lot of people here who are still recovering from the tornado in East Greensboro.” Harris and her husband were determined to stay in the neighborhood despite the major damage to her home. It was restored and the couple was able to move into their new home in August 2020. “Everyone came closer,” she said. “We were already close neighbors who took care of each other, but this tornado brought everyone even closer.”
