Ontario, California (April 16, 2022) – Last night at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, California, former world lightweight contender Thompson Boxing Promotions Ruben “Fight” Villa (19-1, 6 KOs), who is advancing alongside Banner Promotions, scored a knockout in the ninth round. Aracia Garcia (35-6-1, 25 KOs), Guadalajara, Mexico. Villa vs. Garcia, scheduled for the main event in 10 rounds, is the main theme of Thompson’s “Path To Glory” event, as it was their second sold-out show in a row.
Villa dominated the action from the first round, using excellent footwork to strike hard in the corners. Garcia was not responsible for Villa’s lateral movement from the left paw position, and was clearly rejected throughout the fight. After a few rounds Villa got into a good rhythm and started sitting on his punches, hitting his head and body hard. In the ninth round, after Garcia took a lot of penalties, the referee saw enough and stopped the fight at 1:12. With the victory, Villa promises to return to the fight for the world title.
“It was one of my best performances against a tough fighter,” said Villa, who last scored by knockout in 2018. “Garcia never stopped, so to get knocked out against him, I assure me that I came back stronger than ever. During this long break, I never stopped training, now I am ready to fight with all the contenders in the lightweight division.
