Ford has to recall the 2015 Escape SUV because of the risk of rolling back due to a cable that could cause the vehicle not to engage in the intended transmission, which may allow it to roll back even though it allegedly is in the “park”.
The recall affects 96,015 units in 2015 Ford Escape made between April 1, 2014 and June 15, 2015, although the automaker expects only two percent of these cars to have a defect. The cars are equipped with a 2.0-liter engine and a six-speed automatic transmission.
The problem is with the bushing that secures the gear shift cable to the transmission, which can eventually degrade or detach due to heat and humidity. A damaged or missing bushing can prevent the shift lever from shifting to the correct position.

While this is obviously annoying, it is also dangerous because if the driver switches to “Park” mode, but the vehicle is not in proper gear, it can roll back. Worse, drivers will not receive a warning or beep.
If you notice that the position of the gear display in the instrument panel and the gear lever do not match, it is a warning that your Escape may be affected by this problem. You may also notice a defect when trying to move and it seems you are not in that gear.
Owners will be notified starting May 9, and will be asked to bring their car to dealerships. There, a maintenance specialist will replace the hood switch bushing and put a protective cap on it. The new sleeve will be made of a new material of a higher class with a heat stabilizer, and the cap should protect against contamination.
There will be no charge for this Ford creates a reimbursement plan for all owners who have eliminated the problem themselves.
