In the past few days, staff at the University of Queens in Charlotte have found anti-Semitic images in the living quarters of its campus, the school said Monday.
One swastika was found, drawn on a common board. The other two were written in chalk on the doors of dormitories, said University spokesman Keith Pierce.
“These anti-Semitic actions directly violate our Code of Honor, and we condemn them because they do not reflect or represent our institutional values,” the university said in a statement.
The first character was found Thursday night. Since then, the university has been in contact with the affected Jewish students to ensure their safety, Pierce said. The school also provided additional counseling, he said.
The university added officers and enlisted the help of Charlotte-Mecklenburg police to check the perimeter and security of the buildings over the next few days while the investigation into the drawings continues, Pierce said.
“The University of Queens takes all such actions very seriously,” the school said in a statement. “The campus community will not allow one or perhaps two individuals to hold back our progress and pride in what we have created.”
The University welcomes the public to comment on the situation Monday at 8pm during the Queens Stands for Unity meeting on campus at the Trexler Courtyard.
“Our mission, vision and values include developing knowledge and relationships between people with different worldviews, upholding the dignity of all people and working together to create a fairer present and future,” the university said in a statement.
