Great adventure bikes: they are excellent tourists on the move, deceptively good on winding roads and amazingly capable of the ground if the rider copes with this task. But ground clearance comes at a price. God, they can be high. As a mid-height dude, I’m used to putting my foot on most bikes without hesitation, but on some of these adventure cars, if you stop, the land can be far away.

Ducati has decided to solve this problem on its latest Multistrada V4 S by upgrading its semi-active suspension system with a “minimum preload” feature that can be adjusted to relax the preload spring on the forks and shock absorber by slightly lowering the motorcycle. as you approach the stop, you will be able to lower your shoes more securely. Owners of last year’s bike will receive this system for free in a software upgrade.

A similar feature was launched last year Pan American from Harley-Davidson an adventure bike, albeit as an option, and it seems to us excellent and rider-oriented using electronic suspension technology, which will save a few awkward falls, especially for low riders. We would be interested to know exactly how it works in practice and how quickly it is set up; will it fall fast enough to help in a low-speed emergency stop in traffic? Many riders found themselves under their cars this way, including me.

There is some brutal beauty in this. Call it brutal.

There are other options to make the standard seat height of the large Multistrada 840 mm (33.1 inches) more suitable for a wider range of riders. There are additional low and high seats, as well as a factory suspension set, so depending on what you need, you can move the seat height between 790-875 mm (31.1-34.4 inches).

The bike has other things. To begin with 170 horsepower (124.1 kW) from its 1158 cc desmodrome V4 engine. See who, according to Ducati, can now travel a whopping 60,000 km (37,000 miles) before he needs to check the gaps in the valves. This power will get a few shortcuts.

Next up are the front and rear radars – this is the first motorcycle to come with both, allowing both the magic of adaptive cruise control on the motorway and the added safety of blind spot warnings. Ducati says it has also overhauled the infotainment system, telephone and human-machine interfaces on the motorcycle.

The Multistrada S has always sat at the very road end of the adventure market, and this bike continues that tradition, although its 19- and 17-inch wheels are available in both cast and spoke versions, shod in street travel and adventure tires. accordingly, so if you really want to soil your Italian crotch rocket for $ 26 plus plus, knock yourself off your feet.
