Tonight the Confederation of African Football (CAF) will hold a draw for the group stage of the Afcon 2023 qualifiers.
Here’s everything you need to know.
Date, place and details of TV programs
The draw ceremony will take place at SuperSport Studios in Yoburg. The action will be broadcast live on SuperSport TV at 19:30 CAT.
What is happening to banned Zimbabwe and Kenya?
Zimbabwe and Kenya will not be involved in the same group.
The CAF has included them in the qualifiers, but the teams will only take part in the competition if they comply with FIFA’s requirements two weeks before the start of the Games. If the bans are not lifted in time, only three teams will be involved in their groups and the top two will advance to the finals.
To avoid a situation where groups end with only two participants, both Zimbabwe and Kenya will not play together.
Drawing procedure
The first ball will be pulled out of bank 4 and go to position A4. The procedure will be repeated for the remaining teams from Bank 4, which will move to positions B4, C4, D4, E4, F4, G4, H4, I4, J4, K4 and L4 according to the order of the draw.
The same procedure as above will be repeated for pot 3, pot 2 and finally pot 1.
Sowing:
The hosts of Côte d’Ivoire will take part in the qualifiers and the team is guaranteed to reach the final regardless of their place in the group. Their matches and results will be counted in determining the qualifications of the other teams in their group.
Zimbabwe is in pot 3.
The winners and prize-winners of the groups automatically qualify for the Cup of African Nations, which will be held in Côte d’Ivoire in June 2023.
Sowing is based on the latest FIFA rankings published on March 31.
