CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) – Steve Hade’s 18th annual Lo Tide Run has been canceled due to the threat of severe weather.

The organization posted the following statement on its Facebook page on Saturday morning:

“Our number one concern is your safety. Despite the fact that we are deeply saddened to cancel this year’s race due to difficult weather conditions, you can still participate virtually. Remember that the Steve Haydu Lo Tide Foundation is driven by one goal; office raise money for New Hanover County residents who are having financial difficulties because of a cancer diagnosis – and that’s exactly what each of you has done! ”

The 5K / 10K Lo Tide Run was scheduled to start at 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

Usually the Lo Tide Race gathers about 2,000 runners, and all the organizers involved are volunteers.

More than $ 53,000 was raised last year, and more than a quarter of a million dollars has been raised since the event began.
